dance!! :)
hmmm recently i hav been reading ballet novels.. niceeee! haha i started wif reading 'dancing in red shoes will kill you', then 'angelfish' by lawrence yep, then 'ribbons', also by lawrence yep, then 'thursday's children' by rumer godden, then 'all e blue moons at the wallace hotel' by phoebe stone, and finally 'a dance of sisters' by tracey porter.. all are really nice.. but for me to rank and grade them.. i guess:
1) thursday's children
2) a dance of sisters
3) angelfish
4) ribbons
5) all e blue moons at e wallace hotel
6) dancing in red shoes will kill you
thursday's children is THE NICEST! really, e rest i could finish in 2 days, but this book i took v long to finish.. coz it's plot is really more complex, and has many quirks here and there, so wat happens nxt isnt v predictable.. v interesting read.. really really :) e most ballet one of all.. e rest is more abt e storyline, using ballet as e background. this made ballet and e storyline almost inseparable..
a dance of sisters.. well it's lyk e younger and simpler version of thursday's children, mainly ballet too, portraying a young dancer's life.. but of course thursday's children is my pick la.. this book 'a dance of sisters' really showed e struggles of a dancer la..
angelfishh.. hmmm tt was a nice story too, post trauma of e chinese revolutions.. ya how a used to b well-known dancer picked himself up wif e help of a young ballerina..
ribbons.. also abt ancient chinese culture in modern context.. ribbons tt bound feet, ribbons used in ballet.. ya..
all e blue moons at e wallace hotel.. hmmm quite nice too, abt a single mother taking care of two daughters, elder daughter wif e passion to dance, but too poor to afford lessons, hav a gd fren who always comes over to stay.. house was up on a hill, passed dwn possession.. smth lyk a heirloom.. ya it was super big, wif steps, ballroom.. so e elder daughter keeps waking up early to prac ballet before gg to sch, until finally her hard work pays off, and her friend's ballet teacher saw her dancing n recognized her talent..
dancing in red shoes will kill you.. well it was a v v american novel.. ya it was alittle crude, but it's pointe was loud and clear: why are dancers judged according to how they look instead of their actual technique? why do thin dancers get better parts compared to their plumper yet better in technique counterparts? yupp..
hmmmm since thursday's children is so nice, shall not spoil e surprise by telling u guys e story.. go check it out urselves! it's really really nice la.. haha i sound lyk i'm advertising e book.. but i hope there'll b a dvd on it mannn.. really nice :)
haha okie i shall add to this list when i get more books yupp? ballet, dance, rawks!! :)
